Rihanna breaks records with newest number one hit

R&B singer is first solo artist to have ten top hits in under five years.

As Rihanna’s new single S&M rides to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the R&B singer racks up her tenth number one hit in less than five years, making her the fastest solo artist to accomplish the feat, reports Star Pulse.

At four years, 11 months and two weeks between her first and tenth number one hit, Rihanna has broken the record held by Mariah Carey, who took five years and four months to do the same.

Of all musical acts, Rihanna is bested only by The Beatles, who took just one year, eight months and one week to log their tenth number one hit, and The Supremes, who finished the task in two years, eight months and three weeks.

At 23 years, two months and one week of age, Rihanna also breaks Carey’s record for being the youngest artist to land ten songs in the top spot. Carey was 25 years, eight months and one week old when she scored her tenth number one with One Sweet Day on December 2, 1995.
