Rihanna didn’t finish album till 13 days before release

The ‘Diamonds’ singer worked on new record ‘Unapologetic’ right up until the last minute, only handing in a finished version 13 days before release.

Rihanna recorded her new album right up until the last minute.

The ‘Diamonds’ singer – whose new album ‘Unapologetic’ was released on Monday (19.11.12) – didn’t stop recording till 13 days before the album was due in stores.

Rihanna’s manager Jay Brown told Billboard: "We had our songs ready way beforehand, but we never stop recording. If we can record a month later, two months later, all the way to November 6th, we’re never going to stop until that date. We’re never content."

Jay also addressed criticism Rihanna, 24, has released too many albums, with the singer has released a new record each year since 2009’s ‘Rated R’, seven in total – suggesting she is following the same formula as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and the Beatles.

Jay said: "We’re not creating anything new. She’s always making music, because she loves it. So the strategy starts as soon as we get the idea for the next album. Are we going to release another album next year? I don’t know. But it’s just a natural thing for her. She’ll say, ‘I’m going to do a record’, and the next thing I do is focus on going on tour."

The ‘We Found Love’ hitmaker has yet to achieve a number one album in the US, but Jay is upbeat about achieving a number one with ‘Unapologetic’.

Jay said: "It’d be great if she gets one, but she’s broken every other record out there just about. The process is to make good music, and when you make good music, everything plays itself out. It’s great that people take it tastefully and piece by piece and they’re still buying. It’s about the marathon, not the sprint."

‘Unapologetic’ is out now.
