Us magazine reports that Rihanna is mourning the loss of a 6-year old New York girl, Jasmina Anema, who lost her battle against leukemia on Wednesday (January 27).
The singer said, "I am incredibly heartbroken that Jasmina has passed away. She was such a brave and special child. She showed me more strength and spirit than many adults I have met. I feel blessed that I was able to have her in my life, and know that through her example she has saved many lives. She was truly an angel on earth."
Little Jasmina stole Rihanna’s heart in 2008 when the 21-year old star saw a video made by Jasmina’s best friend and mother in an effort to find her a bone marrow donor.
Rihanna decided to pay a surprise visit to the girl last spring and made a video herself to try to find a donor.
Jasmina received a bone marrow transplant last year. However, she was hospitalized this week, suffering from fever and breathing difficulties caused by pneumonia. Her condition worsened and passed away on Wednesday night.
Singer Kelly Rowland also had the chance to meet Jasmina. She said that she was heartbroken to hear the news. "She was a brave and lovely little girl that captured my heart the moment I met her,"
