Rihanna to star in ‘Happy Smekday’

Rihanna will take on her first animation film role in ‘Happy Smekday’.

The ‘You Da One’ singer and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ actor Jim Parsons will lend their voices to the lead roles in the upcoming DreamWorks animation about a friendly alien race who invade the Earth in order to hide from their enemy.

Tim Johnson – who directed popular animation films ‘Antz’ and ‘Over The Hedge’ – is on board as director and Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember are writing the screenplay, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The comedy is an adaptation of Adam Rex’s popular book ‘The True Meaning of Smekday’. The plot will see an outcast alien (Jim) go on the run across America with a human girl (Rihanna) after he accidentally informs the enemy of the aliens’ whereabouts.

Rihanna, 24, made her acting debut earlier this year with a role in action flick ‘Battleship’ alongside Liam Neeson.

The Barbados-born beauty is hoping for a glittering film career and now plans to juggle movies and music.

She said earlier this year: "I didn’t know if I would like it or be good at it. I really enjoyed the experience and I want to do more, try different types of roles so that I can see what I excel in most or like best.”

Two-time Emmy winner Jim has done voice-overs for several shows, including ‘Family Guy’ and ”iCarly’.

‘Happy Smekday’ is scheduled for release in late 2014.
