Robert De Niro Battles Lawsuit

Actor Robert De Niro has asked a Los Angeles judge to toss out a lawsuit filed by an insurance company.

An insurance company is suing De Niro for $1.8 million, the amount they paid a movie studio when De Niro filming was delayed due to the actor’s cancer treatment.

The insurance company claims that the 63 year-old star did not disclose his true health status when he signed the insurance contract.

A lawyer for the actor insists that De Niro had not been aware of his cancer diagnosis at the time of the contract signing.

According to the BBC, the insurance company contends,

"Mr De Niro failed to fully disclose information which was critical to our decision to offer insurance coverage."

"As a result, the film had to be postponed for four months, at significant cost to the motion picture production company."

In response, a lawyer for De Niro said, "One day you don’t have cancer, and the next day you get diagnosed and you do, and this happened to be in the middle of those couple of days."

The insurance company was covering De Niro during the filming of the movie Hide and Seek from 20th Century Fox.  The film went on to earn more than $122 million at box offices.
