Robert Plant announces 2011 tour dates

Former Led Zeppelin frontman heading back on tour with Band of Joy.

Former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant, 62, has announced a dozen tour dates and will hit the road in April for a concert tour with his group Band of Joy, reports HitFix.

Band of Joy was originally formed in England in 1966, and at one time included Plant’s childhood friend and fellow Led Zeppelin bandmate John Bonham.

Revived last year, the group launched an eponymous album, which was number eight on Rolling Stone’s list of the 30 best albums of 2010. In April, Plant and his band will take to the road to continue support the album.

The band will play 12 North American cities, with Vancouver’s April 17 performance the only Canadian concert on the list. The road band is the same collection of musicians who appeared on the album: Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi-instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals, and co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals.

Plant is nominated for two Grammy Awards, best Americana album, and best solo rock vocal performance.
