Robert Plant performs Led Zeppelin songs at festival

Former Led Zeppelin frontman surprises fans at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Pulling some classic songs from his repertoire, former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant surprised fans with a return to his roots during his 90-minute performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Friday (April 29), reports Spinner.

Appearing at the festival with his current group, Band of Joy, the rocker-turned-folk singer covered six Zeppelin tunes during his set.

Some of the covers, like their version of Ramble On, were straight takes on the rock band’s classics, while others were rearranged, including a country version of Houses of the Holy and a haunting rearrangement of Black Country Woman.

Most of the set, however, was off the band’s new album, the self-titled Band of Joy, including covers of Richard and Linda Thompson’s House of Cards and Low’s Monkey.

Plant’s new band includes singer Patty Griffin, bassist Byron House, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott and drummer Marco Giovino.

The group then closed out the evening with a final Led Zeppelin cover, doing their own take on the rock single Gallows Pole.
