Rodriguez (Sin City, Grindhouse) is currently working with the writers of Casino Royale, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, to re-write the 1968 film which starred Jane Fonda. Barbarella made her first appearance seven years earlier in a French comic strip from Jean-Claude Forest.
"I love this iconic character and all that she represents, and I’m truly excited by the challenge of inviting a new audience into her universe," Rodriguez said.
