Robert Rodriguez to Direct Rose McGowan

Director Robert Rodriguez will direct his girlfriend, Rose McGowan, in the film Red Sonja.

According to USA Today, Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan will work together in the new version of the film Red Sonja.

Rodriguez thinks that his girlfriend is perfect for the role, because McGowan is smart, strong and cunning, just like the film’s character.

Red Sonja was created in 1973 for the comic book Conan the Barbarian, one of writer Robert E. Howard’s creations.

The fiery-haired vixen first appeared on film in 1985, played by Brigitte Nielsen.  Arnold Schwarzenegger also starred in the movie.

The film will begin shooting in October, and should open in theatres in 2010, after the release of Rodriguez’s work in progress, the family flick Shorts, expected to come out August 2009.
