Robert Schwentke to direct Divergent sequel

Robert Schwentke is set to direct ‘Insurgent’, which is a sequel to the forthcoming ‘Divergent’ film that is based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling dystopian trilogy.

The ‘Red’ filmmaker is set to helm the sequel to the forthcoming ‘Divergent’ movie which is based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling dystopian trilogy, reports deadline.com.

Neil Burger who directs ‘Divergent’ couldn’t helm the sequel since post production of the first movie – which will be released on March 21 – overlapped with preproduction of the second – which is set hit the big screen on March 20, 2015.

Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing ‘Insurgent’ with Pouya Shahbazian, and Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman will executive produce.

Meanwhile, Kate Winslet has been cast as cold and calculating Jeanine Matthews in ‘Divergent’, she plays the brainy head of the ‘Erudite’ faction, who attempts to take control in a world where people are divided into four groups based on personality type .

The Oscar-winning actress will be joined by ‘The Descendants’ breakout star Shailene Woodley as heroine Tris Prior, who is branded dangerous due to her ‘divergent’ personality type.

Theo James joined the cast as Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton, who is Prior’s love interest.
