Roger Daltrey to take Tommy on tour

U.K. solo tour will feature songs from The Who’s legendary rock opera.

As one of the first rock operas, The Who’s Tommy debuted to great success in 1969. The Who frontman, Roger Daltrey, will take the legendary rock opera on the road this summer for a U.K. solo tour, reports Gibson.

Similar to Roger Waters, formerly of Pink Floyd, who toured with The Wall, Daltrey will include a full presentation of Tommy in his solo tour, booked only in the UK at the moment. Like The Wall, the rock opera Tommy was also adapted for film, and released in 1975.

While The Who guitarist and Tommy co-creator Pete Townshend will not be on tour with Daltrey, he offered his full support.

“Great to see Roger performing Tommy with his band in 2011,” Townshend said. “Roger is touring his unique concert version … using his faithful presentation of the original work as the backbone for a set of wider material.

“It is wonderful to hear the way Roger and his new band re-interpret the old Who songs. I will be there in spirit, and Roger has my complete and most loving support.”

Townshend’s younger brother, Simon, is also a guitarist and will accompany Daltrey on tour from July 3 to 24.
