Roman Polanski Still Behind Bars

Roman Polanski will not be released from prison before Friday, according to the Swiss Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry of Justice announced that the filmmaker will not be leaving prison before Friday.

The large bail of over 4.5 million dollars has still not been paid to authorities for his liberation. The amount will be guaranteed by the Polanski’s apartment property in Paris on Montaigne Avenue. Once the amount is paid, Polanski will be released from the Winterthur prison in North-eastern Zurich.

On Monday (November 30), several journalists, photographers and cameramen flocked in front of Polanski’s cottage, braving the cold and snow. Authorities then decided to reveal Polanski’s date of release to avoid the pointless media frenzy.

The electronic surveillance device will be installed on Polanski once he is transferred to his cottage in the Swiss Alps. The cinematographer will not be able to go beyond 1 800 square metres of his residence, otherwise an alarm will sound. However, he can receive guests if he wishes.

The United States is still demanding Polanski’s extradition for the 1977 case in which he was accused of having illegal sex with a minor. He pleaded guilty to the charges, but fled the country to avoid going to jail. Polanski was arrested in Zurich back in September.
