Mr. Bean’s Holiday has earned $157 million overseas, but won’t be released in North America until August 31.
Filming of David Copperfield, which has a budget of $30 million, will begin in early 2008. In the movie, Atkinson will play Mr. Micawber, Copperfield’s landlord and one of the funniest Dickens characters. The character remains eternally optimistic as he slides into financial ruin.
Micawber was played by W.C. Fields in the George Cukor film version of the book in 1935. Several television adaptations have also been produced.
