The royal doctor has postponed his retirement to deliver the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s baby.

Marcus Setchell – who is the gynecologist due to perform the delivery – was about to step down from his role as a medical professional when he received a call from the royal household last year asking him to deliver Duchess Catherine’s first child.

A close friend of the family told the Cambridge News:  »Marcus comes from a privileged background but he is just so down to earth. He has an amazing way about him and the Duchess of Cambridge is in very capable hands.

»It is a great honor for Cambridge and Hemingford Abbots that Marcus will be delivering the baby and I can’t think of anyone better to do it. He will make Kate feel as comfortable as possible. »

The royal baby is expected to be born in  »mid July, » although the exact due date has not been revealed, but it is believed the newborn will be welcomed into the world before the end of the week.

Duchess Catherine – who was known as Kate Middleton before she married William in 2011 – is set to give birth in a plush delivery suite, which contains champagne, luxury toiletries and a reclining chair.

The suite boasts satellite TV, Wi-Fi, radio and a fresh bouquet of flowers will be delivered every day. It is also fitted with blackout curtains to guarantee total privacy.
