Royal wedding boosts tourism in London

Tour organizers provide tourists with a spot along wedding procession route.

As this spring’s royal wedding draws closer, London is seeing a spike in tourism, and travel agents are responding with a number of special tour packages focused around the big event.

Travellers can take advantage of limited or all-inclusive travel packages that will have them in London on April 29, when Prince William of Wales, eldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and second in line to the throne, marries Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey.

As well as securing a spot along the wedding procession route, many of the tours also include sightseeing trips to other royal landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London, where the crown jewels have been stored since 1303.

The tours offered vary widely, with choices depending on budget – from a $470 four-night stay at the Ramada Hyde Park – to a luxury private tour costing almost $7,500.

Prince William’s upcoming nuptials will be the first royal wedding since his parents, Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, wed on July 29, 1981.
