Russell Crowe to make directing debut?

A Beautiful Mind actor seriously considering police drama for first directing job.

A Beautiful Mind actor Russell Crowe, 47, taking a break after filming Man with the Iron Fist in Hong Kong alongside Lucy Liu, is back home in Australia and seriously considering his first directing project.

The handsome actor is thinking of starring in and directing the film 77, originally written by James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential) and adapted by David Matthews (Law & Order). The drama is centered on two real-life events that occurred in 1974: an unsolved murder of a Los Angeles policeman, and a shoot-out between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the Los Angeles Police Department, where more than 50,000 shots were exchanged.

The story is told from two policemen’s point of view, one white and one black.

While the project is not yet confirmed, Crowe is preparing to film Dirt Music with Australian director Phillip Noyce (Salt), which also stars Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell.
