Russian general killed by scooter bomb
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, a bomb hidden in an electric scooter caused the death of Russian Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, head of the radiological, biological and chemical protection forces.
According to a CNN source, Ukrainian security services were behind this successful attack.
A Russian general who was wanted by Ukraine for using chemical munitions was killed by an explosive device planted in an electric scooter in Moscow, Russian authorities said.
Kirillov’s death came a day after Ukrainian prosecutors convicted him of the alleged use of banned chemical weapons, including chloropicrin, a tear gas banned in 1993 by the Chemical Weapons Convention, to which Russia is a signatory.
These weapons were allegedly used by Russia under its command during the invasion of Ukraine that began in 2022, information confirmed by the US State Department.
Kirillov was recently sanctioned by the UK for the “barbaric deployment of chemical weapons” in Ukraine, while Kyiv claims to have recorded almost 5,000 cases of Russian use of chemical munitions since the start of the war.
His death was quickly claimed by Kyiv after the explosion of a remote-controlled bomb containing 300 grams of TNT, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
The device was concealed in an electric scooter and placed against the outside wall of the targeted apartment, located near the Kremlin.
Kirillov’s assistant, identified as Ilya Polikarpov, was also killed in the explosion of the electric scooter bomb.
