It’s official, one of Hollywood’s most glamorous couples is no more. Yesterday (December 14), after just two years of marriage, American Scarlett Johannson and Canadian Ryan Reynolds released a statement announcing their separation and plans to divorce.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage," they say in a joint statement. "We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated."
Johansson, 26, started dating Ryan Reynolds, 34, in 2007, and on May 5, 2008, it was reported that the two were engaged. On September 27, 2008, Johansson and Reynolds were married at a quiet ceremony near Tofino, British Columbia. They purchased a $2.8 million home together near Los Angeles, California.
The couple have rarely been seen together in public and have no children. They remain fairly private about their relationship, only rarely discussing their married life.
In an April 2010 In Style interview, the actress said she enjoyed cooking for Reynolds – and her domestic life with him. “There’s a nice comfort in that. That part of your life is certain, in a way. You’ve got your home in that other person."
Reynolds, who is People’s Sexiest Man Alive, told the magazine that the best thing about married life was, "You get to hang out with your best buddy every day."
