Ryan Reynolds Wins Green Lantern Role

It has finally been decided that Ryan Reynolds will play the title role in The Green Lantern.

Warner Bros. has finally announced their decision concerning which actor will play the role of Hal Jordon in The Green Lantern.

The Hollywood Reporter and Variety report that Ryan Reynolds won the coveted role, over Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto. Reynolds entered into negotiations on Friday (July 10) after succesfully performing two screen tests.

The project, inspired by the comic book of the same name, will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye).

Created in 1940 by writer Bell Finger and artist Martin Nodell, The Green Lantern follows Hal Jordon, a pilot chosen by alien Abin Sur to succeed him in Green Lantern, a sort of interstellar police. Filming will begin in January and the film is expected to hit theatres on June 17, 2011.

Reynolds is currently filming Buried in Barcelona. Reynolds recently starred as Deadpool in X-Men Wolverine, and a spin-off film is expected to star his character. For the moment, the actor is sharing the big screen with Sandra Bullock in the comedy, The Proposal.
