Sacha Baron Cohen will be the next Walter Mitty?

Sacha Baron Cohen may star in the remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Sacha Baron Cohen is tipped to play the role of Walter Mitty in the remake of the 1947 film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

This movie is based on a short story by US humourist James Thurber that was first published in the New Yorker magazine in 1939.

There’s been talk since 1994 about remaking this film which originally featured Danny Kaye in the title role. Jim Carrey had been approached about the film, then Owen Wilson and Mike Myers. Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg have worked on the project, and many writers, but without success.

Now, 20th Century Fox is trying to revive the project with Sacha Baron Cohen as the lead character. He is in talks to play this small-town store manager who dreams of being a hero.

Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) has the daunting task of writing the new script.

In the meantime, Cohen will begin filming The Invention of Hugo Cabret in 3D in June in London with director Martin Scorsese. The film release is scheduled for December 9, 2011.
