The tropical island nation of Saint Lucia has been named the Caribbean’s leading honeymoon destination during the Caribbean & The Americas Gala Ceremony of the 2011 World Travel Awards.
The Caribbean nation is no stranger to the award either: Saint Lucia received the same honor for 2002-2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The island has no residency requirement for marriage, which means visitors can choose to get married during their trip within 24 hours of arrival, provided they obtain a Special Marriage License. Several of the nation’s hotels have staff specifically dedicated to helping guests orchestrate their special day – and can even provide members of the wedding party if necessary.
Some of the most popular wedding backdrops include the Piton Mountains or one of the island’s several botanical gardens. A variety of wedding and honeymoon packages are available, which can include everything from welcome fruit baskets to sunset cruises.
