Johansson’s mother (and agent), Melanie Johansson, will be producing the film with Alexandra Milchan and Donna Gigliotti. Melanie Johansson also produced A Love Song for Bobby Long, in which her daughter also starred.
Filming for Mary Queen of Scots is set to begin next summer. The producers are currently searching for a director.
