After five nominations, Martin Scorcese finally won an Oscar for best director. His movie, The Departed also won for best movie.
The Oscars are the most prestigious awards ceremony in the film industry. Other winners included, Helen Mirren for best actress in The Queen, and Forest Whitaker, best actor in The Last King of Scotland.
In supporting roles, Alan Arkin won for his part in Little Miss Sunshine, the newest star, Jennifer Hudson won for Dreamgirls.
Other winners included Pan’s Labyrinth which one three awards, and An Inconvenient Truth won two. Dreamgirls had eight nominations and won two Oscars.
