The Montreal Canadiens have a number of very interesting prospects in their organization, as well as in the junior and college ranks.
Lane Hutson made CH fans salivate throughout his season, while defenseman Logan Mailloux proved his usefulness in the offensive zone with his 25 goals in the OHL.
But with so many quality prospects, it’s easy to overlook a few.
Jared Davidson has never been labeled a top prospect, having been selected 130th overall in the 2022 draft at the age of 19.
Yet he was coming off a very good WHL season with 42 goals and 89 points in 64 games, while adding 29 points in 25 playoff games.
This season, he’s had some excellent moments again, and is starting to make a name for himself for the right things.
With 82 points in 60 games and another 23 points in 19 playoff games, he’s proving that he’s a danger in the offensive zone.
His head coach with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Matt O’Dette, believes that the Tricolore have selected an excellent player in the 5th round of the 2022 draft.

His ability to fill the net with ease is well known, but this season Davidson has focused on becoming a more complete player by perfecting, among other things, his defensive and physical game.
“I’ve improved all facets of my game and tried to focus on being a better player in both directions of the rink, not just a forward who can score goals.” – Jared Davidson
This shows the young center’s desire to improve, and can only be beneficial in securing a professional contract, as he’s in his final year of Canadian junior.
His coach Matt O’Dette had nothing but good things to say about him when he spoke to TVA Sports. He says he’s impressed by his offensive talent, even if he plays much more than a one-dimensional attacking style.
“He’s one of our best players and one of our greatest leaders. He can score and be effective in all facets of the game. He plays hard and loves the physical game. He’s the perfect prototype of a playoff player.” – Matt O’Dette
As his junior career draws to a close, the Tricolore has a few options for his next contract.
Davidson could sign his entry-level contract with a classic two-part contract for three years, making him eligible to play with both the Laval Rocket and the Tricolore.
Alternatively, he could sign an AHL-only contract, the same type of contract Rafaël Harvey-Pinard signed when he turned pro.
Both players were drafted at the age of 19, and RHP signed this contract when he left the junior ranks.
Not only are their contractual situations similar, but their playing mentality also seems to be similar.
Both young players are not afraid of physical play, even if they are not big.
What’s more, they both play with great enthusiasm and an unrivalled desire to win.
The kind of player that appeals to Habs fans. All Davidson needs is to be a Quebecer to reach the pinnacle of the type of player perfect for the average CH fan.
