Serena and Blair inspire Gossip Girl fashion label

Popular TV show spawns fashion collection based on the two main characters.

Popular television show Gossip Girl is about to get its own fashion line, inspired by the show’s two female leads, reports WWD.

In a collaboration between Warner Bros. and Los Angeles-based fashion label Romeo & Juliet Couture – a favorite with celebrities like Rachel Bilson and Rihanna – the new Gossip Girl label will go on sale September 26, to coincide with the premiere of the show’s fifth season.

The fashions will be based upon main characters Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, on-screen best friends with very different styles.

Blonde-bombshell Serena – portrayed on the television series by Blake Lively – will no doubt inspire sexy, playful outfits, while Upper East Side princess Blair – portrayed by Leighton Meester – prefers the prim and proper look, with high-collar dresses and colored tights.

The television series provided the "perfect design muse," explained Maryellen Zarakas at Warner Bros. "It wasn’t a decision about whether or not to pursue this collection; it was about finding the right partner."

Currently the focus is solely on clothes, however there are plans to expand the line with the addition of handbags and accessories, added Zarakas.

"We’re still working out the line plan for the future," she added. "But we have a long-term relationship planned that will see the line expand into other product categories."
