The Colombian singer Shakira is nominated for an award for best video for her song Dance. It will be the first time for an artist to sing a Spanish song for the award.
Ludacris has been nominated for best rap video and best special effects in a video.
The two stars will join many others at the awards, including Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Green Day, Mariah Carey and the Killers.
Organisers have also announced that Usher, Snoop Dogg, Lindsay Lohan, Joss Stone, Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst and Jeremy Piven will all be trophy presenters.
The MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted by P. Diddy, and the event will take place live from Miami on August 28.
