Shakira brings it full circle

The singer will headline the closing ceremonies at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Colombian singing star Shakira will be front and centre at the closing ceremonies of the FIFA World Cup this coming Sunday, July 11. She also had the honour of headlining the opening ceremonies on June 10.

Other artists will be joining Shakira on stage, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jozi, Stoan Seate, Slikour, Zuluboy, Nigeria’s 2Face, Ghana’s Samini and local traditional group Ihashi Elimhlophe.

Shakira will once again perform the World Cup anthem, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).

The show gets underway at 6:30 pm local time, a few hours before the final game between the Netherlands and Spain.

Jermaine Craig is a spokesman for the South African organizing committee. He said, "(It will be) more youthful and a bit more technologically advanced (with) nice lighting effects and special effects planned."

There is conjecture that former President Nelson Mandela may attend the final game and possibly present the World Cup to the winning team.

Mandela did not appear as planned at the opening ceremonies. He was mourning the loss of his 13-year old great-granddaughter who was tragically killed in a car crash the night before.
