Record-breaking ticket sales and production extensions are just some of the successes announced by Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Shaw Festival during its 50th season, reports Canada Tourism News.

The plays Maria Severa by Jay Turvey and Paul Sportelli and Drama at Inish – A Comedy by Lennox Robinson will both be extended by four performances each at the Niagara Theatre. Each production – directed by Jackie Maxwell – have been sold-out since debuting in June.

In addition to unprecedented demand for this summer’s productions, the 50th season of The Shaw Festival has also set noteworthy, province-wide theatre box office benchmarks. Their musical production of My Fair Lady will be the best selling production in the history of the Festival; their Pygmalion will have attracted an unmatched 90,000 patrons, and Family Ticket sales have increased over 248% since last season.

"These figures give us the confidence to continue vigorously re-examining, reimagining and ultimately presenting plays by Shaw in fresh, interesting and innovative new ways," says Jackie Maxwell, Artistic Director.

The Shaw Festival’s 50th season will now continue through October 30. Ticket prices range from $46 to $91, with youth tickets priced at the discounted rate of $30. Matinee pricing is also available.
