Shiver me timbers… Penélope?

Penélope Cruz is in talks to join the cast of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Penélope Cruz is in negotiations to star in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

She would join Johnny Depp in the franchise’s fourth film.

Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are not reprising their roles in Captain Jack Sparrow’s next adventure. Cruz would play the foil and equal of Depp’s eccentric character as he goes off to search for the Fountain of Youth.

Filming will begin this summer in Hawaii. A release date is planned for May 20, 2011.

Yesterday (February 10), it was reported that Penélope Cruz will star in Lars von Trier’s next project, Melancholia. This film is a disaster film-psychological drama. It now looks like she won’t be doing that after all, in part because of the Pirates movie.

The actress has a role in the much anticipated Sex and the City 2 coming to theatres on May 28. She will also take part in the film Rain in Spain but no details have been announced because the project is still in development.
