Should Parents Avoid Giving Kids Halloween Candy?

While the majority of parents fear for their little monsters’ dental health around this time of year, Dr. Mark Helpin, professor at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry, has some reassuring words.

“Parents need to know that frequency is far more important than amount when it comes to taking in. It’s not how much we eat but how often we eat these kinds of things that will place us at increased risk of dental decay and cavities,” Dr. Helpin explained.

According to him, the development of cavities occurs due to the presence of an acidic product the mouth produces while eating. Dr. Helpin recommends that parents ensure their children are brushing their teeth well and most of all, avoid giving them sweets before bedtime.
