Show Cancelled for Akon

An accident that happened while the stage was being prepared for R&B star Akon has caused the show to be cancelled.

The free concert, which was to be held at Emery University in Atlanta, has been called off after three people were injured when part of the stage broke away during its construction.  Two of the injured are in serious condition.  The 34 year-old singer was not present at the time of the accident.

According to Eric Jackson, the DeKalb Fire Chief, the weight of the lighting system caused the incident.  He said, "In the midst of trying to prepare to get everything ready—specifically to perform a sound check, is when the canopy that is on this temporary stage collapsed."

Once the ambulances left with the injured individuals, the location was closed off so that investigators could determine the exact cause of the accident.

A new date for the concert should be announced soon.
