Silversea cruises adds Myanmar to its 113-day round the world itinerary

Guests aboard the Silver Whisper will visit 54 destinations in 29 countries, including Myanmar.

(Relaxnews) – As the tourism industry in Myanmar keeps growing, Silversea Cruises has announced that is adding Myanmar as part of its world itinerary to take place in 2014.

Silversea Cruises announced last week that the luxurious 113-day voyage was including a two-day stay in Yangon, Myanmar.

The cruise’s itinerary, to sail off from Los Angeles on January 6, also includes stops in Hawaii, Japan, India and Australia before ending in Barcelona on April 30. Guests aboard the Silver Whisper will visit 54 destinations in 29 countries, enjoying 12 overnight stays along the way.

If 113 days is not enough, the itinerary can be extended by adding a pre-cruise Panama Canal voyage (17 days) or by adding a voyage from Barcelona to Lisbon (7 days).

The Silver Whisper has capacity for 382 guests. Fares for the 113-day voyage start at $54,550 per person, based on double occupancy.

As the long-cloistered country opens up to the world, the tourism industry in Myanmar is setting up a greater presence. According to Voice of America, tourists and business arrivals were up more than 30 percent in the first seven months of this year for a total of 300,000 arrivals.

On September 4, the Orient Express announced a new luxury river cruise in Myanmar, the Orcaella, to start cruising in July 2013 through the Ayeyarwady River between Yangon and Bhamo. Operating between January to April and July to December, Orcaella will offer seven- and 11-night cruise itineraries. The ship will also cruise the Chindwin River through western Myanmar all the way to Homalin, next to the Indian border.
