Simply Red takes a bow

Mick Hucknall’s group announces it is breaking up.

Simply Red was one of the most popular bands of the 1980s with a string of hit songs like Holding Back The Years and Something Got Me Started. Now there is news the band has decided to call it quits and go their separate ways.

The group had its first success in 1985 with the song Money’s Too Tight (to Mention). It wasn’t until 1991 that the group hit the big time with its album, Stars. That was the most purchased album in Europe for two years in a row.

The album highlighted the group’s immense talent but they realized later that it hurt them a bit too. The group felt pressured to match its success and never really did. They kept on making music and their records have continued to have respectable sales. They have sold nearly 50 million albums since they started out.

So it was with a bit of regret that the famous red-haired singer, Mick Hucknall, announced details of a small farewell tour. It consists of nine shows in the United Kingdom. The curtain comes down on December 18 and 19 at the 02 Arena in London.
