Smartphone key for Stockholm hotel room

Swedish pilot project allows guests to use smart phones as hotel room key.

As of November 1, the Clarion Hotel Stockholm (Sweden) is running a four-month pilot project that allows guests to use their smart phones as a digital hotel room key, and check in and out of the hotel.

Selected hotel guests will receive a Samsung mobile phone with relevant software and receive booking confirmation on it.  The guests can check in on the mobile phone before arrival at the hotel, and once the check-in process has been completed, a digital hotel room key is delivered to the phone.

Upon arriving at the hotel, these guests can skip the check-in line, and go directly to their room, opening the door by holding the mobile phone close to the door lock. When the guest leaves the room, the door locks automatically.

Once the guest checks out via smart phone, the digital hotel room keys are deactivated. Based on the results of the pilot project, the Clarion Hotel may implement this security system worldwide, simplifying the process and offering significant convenience for travelers who wish to simplify every step of their journey.
