Smashing Pumpkins start record club

Alt rockers start new club to distribute demos and rarities.

Alt rockers the Smashing Pumpkins are launching a new retrospective archives project called the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club, which will offer unique demos and rarities for free download to members, reports Consequence of Sound.

In exchange for registering their e-mail address on the band’s official website, club members can get their hands on a rough demo recording of Drown, a track which later appeared on the soundtrack for the 1992 Cameron Crowe film Singles.

"The first song we’re going to release for free is a demo recording of ‘Drown’, which we found in going through the archives. It was recorded roughly around the end of ’91, early ’92," explained frontman Billy Corgan. "And so this is the actual demo from that time."

More tracks will be made available over the coming weeks, as an exclusive to club members. "And as part of what we’re going to do here with the Record Club, we’re going to provide certain materials that the band worked with to make its decisions," added Corgan.

"So although we eventually hope to offer this demo for sale, remixed and updated to 96k 24-bit status… the ‘Drown’ here that you’ll have will be the actual rough mix from the time."
