SNL’s Jason Sudeikis to host MTV Movie Awards

Actor-comedian follows in footsteps of colleague Andy Samberg.

Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live, Hall Pass, Going the Distance) has been chosen to host the 20th MTV Movie Awards.

"I’m sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded movie awards show hosting in 2011 alive," Sudeikis said.

"Smart and funny is the new rock and roll for our audience — and that combo pretty much sums up Jason,” said Stephen Friedman, president of MTV. “He is a smartass and a gentleman who never goes for the easy or obvious joke.

“Because of that, he is the ideal Movie Awards host, and we are confident with him anchoring the show, our audience is in store for unexpected and crazy moments with Hollywood’s biggest stars and musicians."

In addition to his exploits on SNL – where over six seasons Sudeikis has portrayed everyone from Vice President Joe Biden to American Idol winner Taylor Hicks – the comedian and actor stars in this summer’s Horrible Bosses opposite Jason Bateman and Charlie Day.

The MTV Movie Awards nominees — based on fan votes at MovieAwards.MTV.com — will be announced on May 3, at which point fans will be able to vote for their favorite films and stars in categories like Best Fight, Best Kiss, Biggest Badass Star, Best Villain and, of course, Best Movie. Voting continues to June 4, though Best Movie will remain open throughout the live ceremony on June 5 – meaning the night’s biggest prize will remain unknown until the very last minute.

The show will air live June 5 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
