Solitude increases blood pressure

Solitude can cause high blood pressure in the elderly.

According to the Mail Online, solitude can increase blood pressure. People who live alone are more susceptible to developing hypertension at the end of their life.

According to new research, a chronic sense of loneliness increases blood pressure and this phenomenon is more pronounced in people over 50.

229 people from 50 to 68 years participated in this study, the first to demonstrate a link between loneliness and blood pressure. Even people with a  lower level of loneliness were affected.

The researchers add that people may have a hectic life and a good social network but the fact remains that many feel alone. This puts them at an increased risk of developing hypertension.

In the past, it was found that people who feel lonely were twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. Now hypertension can be added to the list.
