Soundgarden bonds with Guitar Hero

Soundgarden’s new album will be simultaneously released with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

Soundgarden reunited this year after a 12-year hiatus. The grunge rockers plan a unique way to herald their return. Their new album will be bundled with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock due out on September 28. For one week, this will be the only way fans can get their hands on Telephantasm: A Retrospective before it is released in CD form on October 5.

Activision announced Tuesday (August 3) that the first million copies of its soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero game will come with the 12-song greatest hits compilation. Tim Riley is vice president of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero. He commented: "We’re extremely excited to be collaborating with Soundgarden on this monumental moment in their music career."

The album includes songs from all Soundgarden albums and there’s an added treat as well. Fans will find a lost track on the album. The alt rockers recorded Black Rain during their Badmotorfinger recording sessions in 1991. It is debuting exclusively in Guitar Hero.

Soundgarden also marks its reunion with a headlining spot at the Lollapalooza music festival on August 8.
