Cast album written by U2’s Bono and The Edge debuts same day as musical.

One of the most troubled and expensive musicals in history, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, a new rock musical based on the comic book super-hero, is finally ready for its official premiere on Broadway.

The cast album of 14-tracks will also makes its debut the same day as the official Broadway opening on June 14.

Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the songs will feature Reeve Carney in the role of Peter Parker, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane, T.V. Carpio as Arachne, and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin, backed by a 20-piece orchestra.

The first single Rise Above 1 was released this week with a debut performance on the finale of American Idol.

Music and lyrics were written by U2’s Bono and The Edge, with a book by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

The ambitious musical faced many technical challenges and accidents, which caused several lengthy delays. One of the creators, director Julie Taymor was recently replaced by co-director Philip William McKinley, and with additional changes to script and music, the show recently resumed after a three-week hiatus.
