Star Trek boldly goes to Jordan
A massive entertainment resort based upon the popular franchise Star Trek is currently in the works in Aqaba, Jordan.
The Red Sea Astrarium resort will feature a Star Trek theme park as its main focus, but the 184-acre entertainment complex will also include a number of other attractions, as well as restaurants, retail stores, late-night entertainment and a range of accommodations.
Expected to open in 2014, local Jordan company Rubicon Group Holding is undertaking the massive $1 billion venture in partnership with CBS Consumer Products and Paramount Recreation.
Designed by architectural firm Callison, the resort will be marketed as a family destination. Some of the attractions will highlight the local history of the area, while others will draw from Babylonian, British and Roman influences to create a unique experience.
"At its core, Star Trek is about bringing worlds together and about a profound hope for the future," said Liz Kalodner, general manager of CBS Consumer Products. "We are proud to bring such a unique, interactive Star Trek property to this part of the world to be a part of Jordan’s future."
