Steve Carell doesn’t want his children to act or ”have jobs” until they are older.

Steve Carell doesn’t want his children to act until they’re older.

The 52-year-old actor has daughter Elizabeth, 13, and son John, 10, with wife Nancy, and though he would support them if they chose to follow in their parents’ footsteps when they are older, for now he would rather they didn’t ”have jobs” and kept their interests at amateur level.

Asked if he would allow his kids to be actors, he said: ”I would not as children, I don’t want them to have jobs at this age, it’s not for them, it’s not in their DNA right now.

”I wouldn’t discourage them from acting and I’d love them to do school plays and pursue it if they want it to. Vaguely interested, my daughter just got a part in the school play and is excited but in terms of a professional career, that’s for later on. 18, if they want to be actors.”

Steve and Jennifer Garner star with a number of children, including Ed Oxenbould, Dylan Minnette and Kerris Dorsey in their new movie ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ and the ‘Office’ actor was relieved they weren’t ”weird robot actor kids” and were a joy to be around.

He told BBC Radio 2’s Graham Norton: ”The kids were great and not weird robot actor kids, they were very good, honest, natural, they were nice. Good people.”
