Actor Steve Carell will be taking Jacques Villeret’s role in the American remake of the French film, being called Dinner for Schmucks, according to a report from Empire.
At first, Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) was recruited to play the role, but now it’s Carell who will play the schmuck that gets conned into being the special guest invited to dinner. It is still unknown who will be playing Thierry Lhermitte’s role.
The American version of the film will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers).
Steve Carell’s schedule is booked for 2009. He will star in Get Smart 2, Brigadier Gerard, The Beaver, Date Night, and will also provide the voice for a character in Despicable Me.
