Steven Soderbergh To Start Che Project

Director Steven Soderbergh wants to make two films about the revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

The filmmaker, who directed the successful Ocean’s Eleven, wants to make back-to-back movies about the life of the man who organised a movement against Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista.

The role of Che will be played by Benicio Del Toro.  The actor previously worked with Soderbergh for the film Traffic in 2000.

The first of the two films will be entitled The Argentine.  Guevara and a group of Cuban exiles, led by Fidel Castro, reach the Cuban shore from Mexico in 1956. They proceed to mobilize an army and topple the regime of Fulgencio Batista.

The second film, Guerilla, begins with Guevara’s trip to New York, where he spoke at the United Nations in 1964.

Filming for the two projects will begin next May in South America.
