Steven Spielberg gets back in the director’s chair

Steven Spielberg’s next project is a film inspired by a Michael Morpurgo novel.

Steven Spielberg revealed his next project will be a film adaptation of War Horse, a novel by Michael Morpurgo.

The story takes place during the First World War. It revolves around the extraordinary story of a young boy and his horse. They become separated when the horse is sold to the army but their paths are destined to cross again.

The book was published in 1982 and the story has already appeared on stage in London in 2007.

Spielberg will co-produce the movie with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest.

The legendary filmmaker recounted in December: "From the moment I read [the book], I knew this was a film I wanted DreamWorks to make. Its heart and its message provide a story that can be felt in every country."

Spielberg finished directing the first instalment in the Tintin trilogy, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, that hits theatres on December 23, 2011. He is making this trilogy with Peter Jackson. As a result, Jackson will likely direct the  second film and the two could co-direct the third film.

Steven Spielberg has a number of projects coming down the pipe, including films on Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., George Gershwin and a fifth Indiana Jones.
