Steven Tyler joins American Idol

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler inks a deal to join American Idol.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Livefeed blog reports that Steven Tyler signed a deal to join American Idol. Sources close to the deal say the 62-year old rocker will join the show for its 10th season.

TMZ.com posted a video last week in which Tyler stated the show had to "lay out the bread" in order for him to sign. Now sources say Tyler is expected to join the production in time for the judges hitting the audition trail in September.

Earlier this month, Tyler acknowledged he was in talks with Fox. When asked what kind of judge he would be, he replied: "I would be honest to the ones that think they have it, and I would be truthful in the sense that if, to those that have it, they don’t have it yet enough. And I would tell them exactly why, as I see it."

Fox Television Network is not commenting at this time. There has also been no official confirmation from Steven Tyler. Other stars rumoured to be in the running were Jennifer Lopez and Shania Twain. Lopez was apparently dropped from the short list after she asked for too much money.
