Singer-songwriter honored by legendary NYC theater.

On Monday (June 13), legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, 61, was inducted into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame in New York City.

Born in Saginaw, Michigan, the multi-instrumentalist signed with Motown Records at the age of 11, and has been producing hits ever since. He is best known for pop songs like Superstition, I Wish, Sir Duke, You are the Sunshine of My Life, and I Just Called to Say I Love You.

The gala event attracted a star-studded list of entertainers, including Tony Bennett, Chic Corea, Raphael Saadiq, Melanie Fiona, Yolanda Adams, Take 6, and Doug E. Fresh, among others.

"It’s a moment to cherish and remember, relishing in the memories of the times that I’ve been at the Apollo, as well as this night, the great people that came out to support me being here," Wonder said in an interview. "It’s a great thing to be one of those people in the Hall of Fame for the Apollo."

The Apollo Legends Hall of Fame features renowned musicians, artists, and entertainers whose path to fame began at the Apollo. Wonder joins a distinguished roster that includes Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Little Richard, and Ella Fitzgerald.

Each Apollo Legends Hall of Fame Inductee is honored with a plaque on the Apollo Walk of Fame, installed under the theater’s iconic marquee. The Apollo Theater is a not-for-profit organization that attracts over one million visitors a year.
