Stones rumoured to play Glastonbury Festival

English supergroup rumoured to headline world’s largest open-air music festival in 2011.

The mere mention he’d like to play Glastonbury Festival in England has immediately given rise to rumours that Ronnie Wood and the Rolling Stones will play the famous musical festival in 2011. Wood also noted that a festival performance would be a great way to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.

“I’d love to do it. I’m always up for the festivals. As far as the Stones are concerned, we haven’t had a get together for three years but it’s high time,” said Wood.

In 2010, several festivals around the world struggled with ticket sales, but Glastonbury’s reputation has grown over the past forty years to the point where the tickets will sell out quickly, even before all the artists are announced. Tickets for next year’s festival sold out within four hours.

For the Rolling Stones, their presence at the Glastonbury Festival would be the first appearance at an event of this kind since 2007, when they headlined the Isle of Wight festival, and only the second since they played at Knebworth Fair in 1976.

Fans will have to wait until next spring 2011 for the unveiling of the artists on the next festival’s poster to see whether the Rolling Stones are included.

The 2011 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, commonly known as Glastonbury or Glasto, is scheduled for next June 22 to 26.  The festival is best known for its contemporary music, but also features dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and many other arts.
