Sugar is toxic to good cholesterol

Sugar increases the level of bad cholesterol and lowers the good.

According to the American journal JAMA, eating too much sugar not only adds pounds but also causes many diseases.

Sugar increases the level of bad cholesterol and triglycerides, but decreases good cholesterol.

Many food companies add sugar to their products to improve the taste or to reduce fat. These are many hidden sugars in beverages, cereals, dairy  products, pastries and prepared foods.

This may be the root cause of several diseases like obesity or diabetes, and this is the first time we see that it also affects cholesterol.

A study followed 6,000 Americans who detailed their eating habits and took blood tests. Those who ate too much sugar had a much lower level of good cholesterol than people who ate a reasonable amount of sugar. Their bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels also increased.
