A lawsuit has been filed against Wyclef Jean by New York rapper Blahz. According to the suit, Wyclef Jean illegally sampled a portion of the song Danger for his new single, Welcome To The East.
Blahz claims that his song, which was written twelve years ago, is being used without his permission. According to insiders, the lawsuit is demanding $50 million in damages.
One of the goals of the lawsuit, according to Blahz, is to stop the abuse of lesser-known artists in the music industry. Blahz explained,
"Being a part of the music industry over the past decade has been a rewarding experience, but I’ve also witnessed, first-hand, artists such as myself getting taken advantage of and legally violated by record labels and ‘big name’ artists alike – not to mention commercial artists constantly stealing from the underground."
