Sum 41 frontman attacked
Deryck Whibley was attacked by three people last night (August 5) in a bar in Osaka, Japan. Details are slowly trickling out. The lead singer and frontman of Juno Award-winning band Sum 41 is now recovering in a Japanese hospital.
A message was posted on the band’s Twitter site saying: “Deryck Whibley was attacked in a bar last night by 3 unknown people. He is in the hospital now. Japanese police are looking into the matter.”
An update was added later to the band’s blog informing fans: “It is unfortunate to say, but Deryck Whibley is still in the hospital. He was attacked late last night in Japan. We are waiting for results and we are hoping for the best. Thanks for your support.”
Sum 41 was scheduled to perform at the Summersonic Festival in Osaka over the weekend but that has been cancelled. It is unclear at this point if any other tour dates will be cancelled.
